Winter Skin

on November 4, 2011
Snow storms across the country and drops in the temperature at Friday night football games have made it official--old man winter is here to stay. Now itchy, irritated and cracking will become the focal point of so many women as they change their beauty products. So, what should we look for if maximum moisture is the goal?
Lush Glorious Mud and Buffy

Beauty experts agree that exfoliating, moisturizing and keeping on sunblock are just as important in the winter as they are in the summer. So the only thing that should change is the type of coverage you need. Here's a look at some wonder products that I've added to my winter staples.

Exfoliation ensures that you get rid of dead skin cells and produce healthy, glowing ones to replace them. Using an exfoliant that has natural oils will help retain moisture-an important part of cell therapy and prevents that itchy and cracked feeling. Two favorites are glorious mud and buffy. The first takes a few tries to figure out how to use but once you get your method down, it's the best for soft skin with a nice scent. The latter uses the right amount of exfoliation with a combination of cocoa  and shea butter to leave a delightful feeling.

L'Occitane
Moisturizers after baths for face and body are a must during the winter months--even for oily skin. Just be sure to choose one that addresses your skin type. I love ones natural oils, especially olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil has plenty of minerals, vitamin E and antioxidants that neutralize skin-damaging free radicals. I also love products that have shea butter. L'Occitane's Shea Butter Extra-Gentle lotion is great for your hands and body. Mixed with honey and oat milk, it's the perfect drink for dry and irritated skin.
