myPantone for iPhone

on October 28, 2009

Pantone has introduced an application for the iPhone called myPantone that should make it a little less stressful when trying to find the "perfect" color for a custom invitation or event design. It allows you to have your color strips with you everywhere you go. So now when you're out shopping or just running an errand and you see a pretty color, you can find out what "color" it is.

The app lets you take pictures with your iPhone and then extracts colors to give you a color palette or you can zoom in on one color in particular to find the pantone match for that color. You can always use your swatch (I highly suggest) to be sure that of the correct color mix and palette before you completely accept what the software says. I've played with this app all day and I absolutely rave over it! Do you know how this will save you time and energy trying to find "this red" or "that pink" when assisting a client? It's helped me find a matching ink color for a client's peacock inspired wedding programs. We're all so excited and can't wait to see the final product!

I recommend this to anyone who works with color on a daily basis. It's like having your swatches "in your purse" and no fingerprints on them! Visit pantone.com for more information and a brief demo.

While you're on the site, also check out the "My Color My Idea" section. It has lots of colors selected by and designers in all areas of the industry from fashion to home accents and even toys! This week features Robert Best of Mattel, Tim Gunn, Patricia Field of "Sex and the City" and more. Each gives their inspiration for the color they've selected and a visual of how it "came to life" in their product.
