Coloring My iPhone

on October 26, 2009
I was never a big cell phone user. My parents' rule was, "a cell phone is only for emergencies" and that's the way it's been for me even now. I know there are people in this world that can't live without their phone but I just don't understand the addiction. Well, I had to switch phone carriers and in the process, I made the big leap! Those Apple commercials are really interesting and they actually highlight some useful apps—a few of them free (my favorites) and a few in the low dollar range. This week, I'll talk about a few apps that I've found to be fun, interesting and out-of-the-box!

The first came by way of Get Married Magazine. They were kind enough to send any vendor in the bridal industry free copies of their inaugural issue. I couldn't pass up this opportunity because they always have insightful and practical information for brides in any budget range. The day they arrived, I sat down and read a copy cover to cover, looked at all the pictures, took notice of the color schemes and the items showcased as well as this funny-looking square on certain ad pages.

I've learned that your brides are looking at you as the expert, even though you're learning about trends just as they are. Having said that, I feel that when you know about what's going on, you can help the bride and her mother or family plan better. So I took the plunge and downloaded the app. I tested it to be sure I understood how it worked and how to get the most useful information for my brides. Now, I'm ready to talk more about registries, trends, how to save money while still providing favors for guests, etc.

I must say that I love this "smart tag" thing! It takes you directly to the items on your iphone and it also works with other phones as well. The concept is to take a picture of the tag and your phone will read the coded information to save you time with web navigation. Imagine eliminating 3-5 minutes trying to find the item you may want to add to your registry or having a direct link to send someone. Love, love, love it!
