Wow, I'm just devastated. I can't believe the events of the past hours. I remember my parents and grandparents saying that they remembered what they were wearing and what they were doing on the day President Kennedy was killed. It was something that my generation couldn't fathom...until now.
In years to come, as our children and their children hear and see Michael Jackson songs, they'll ask us about him. Our memory will take us back through time and we too will remember what we were doing "the day Michael Jackson died."
My best friend called me while I was preparing dinner and she said, "Did Michael Jackson die?!" I just laughed because it was the craziest thing! Michael dead! Whatever...and then just one second after I said "No!" my husband yelled as he hurried downstairs towards the kitchen, "Babe! Michael Jackson died!" Okay, two people--who's spreading these rumors?!
We just waited for a true sign. I wouldn't believe it until someone credible would confirm it. Not CNN, not ABC, not TMZ, not the LA Times, not any news agency but a family member. And then...Jermaine said what I hoped he wouldn't say....
I grew up a Michael Jackson fan. My Dad wouldn't let me put any posters on my wall but Michael made the wall! My Mom took me to see "The Wiz" when I was a little girl and it's still one of my favorite movies of all time. She played records of Michael and the Jackson 5 for me before I could walk and talk! Mike helped me through the pre-teen and teen years singing through my radio and tape player while I did my most hated chore--wash dishes! He blew me away with everything he did! The world premiere on MTV, the Billie Jean video, the Victory album and tour--he was THE figure of my generation. The "Thriller" cover made him my first of many "sexiest man of all time" winners.
The world will truly be left without a caring and talented individual. A supporter of more than 39 charities at one point, his humanitarian efforts went beyond those of many celebrities. A career that spaned over 30 years garnered him numerous awards such as being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame not once but twice, greatest all-time selling album, and pushed him to new heights as an inventor and innovator will never be duplicated. He will probably be the biggest entertainer EVER! Imagine selling out any venue in the WORLD! He was truly amazing and I'll always love him!
Ironically, it appears that he wrote his own epitaph and we just didn't know--"Gone to Soon."
